Small Steps Create Big Shifts

Journaling is a common and useful way to clarify thoughts, track spiritual growth, and record answers to prayer. It helps you notice patterns in your emotions and behaviors, making it easier to identify moments of gratitude, areas needing forgiveness, and small daily blessings you might otherwise overlook.

We use unique prompts to deepen this practice by inviting fresh angles and unexpected reflections. Our prompts are designed to spark curiosity, encourage honesty, and reveal layers of faith you may not have examined before. Examples of the kinds of prompts we use:

  • Describe a moment this week when you noticed something ordinary become surprisingly special to you.

  • Write a letter to yourself. Not future self, not past self. Write to your present self. The self who is here right now. If you are worried, write you yourself about your worry. If you are joyful, write to yourself about your joy.

  • Recall a passage of Scripture or a reflection that felt alive to you recently. Why did it resonate, and how can you apply it in a concrete way this week?

  • Imagine God is answering one small, specific prayer right now. What is it, and how would your life look differently in the next 24 hours?

  • Identify a persistent worry. Ask: What is the smallest next step I can take that reflects trust rather than fear?

  • Create a gratitude list focused on relationships: people who encourage, challenge, or reflect Christ to you. What would you say to one of them right now?

  • Picture a door labeled with a spiritual habit you want to open (silence, service, relational). Describe what’s behind that door and the first thing you’ll do to enter.

  • Write about a question you’re afraid to ask God. What makes it frightening, and what might happen if you brought it into prayer?

These prompts are intentionally varied. Some practical, some imaginative, some reflective to keep journaling alive and exploratory. Use them as daily starters, weekly deep dives, or quick pauses when you need to re-center. Over time, the answers form a tapestry of how you are growing, shifting, and being refined.
